Sometimes when I feel like killing someone, I do a little trick to calm myself down. I'll go over to the person's house and ring the doorbell. When the person comes to the door, I'm gone, but you know what I've left on the porch? A jack-o-lantern with a knife stuck in the side of its head with a note that says 'you.' after that I usually feel a lot better, and no harm done.

Wisdom teeth prove that there is no god

I learned about Pericoronitis firsthand over the last 10 days or so by acquiring the condition and dealing with the consequences of it. My lesson began with occasional soreness and from there became a throbbing pain in my jaw and lymph nodes. I tried to ward it off with ibuprofen; initially I was successful but after several days this strategy failed. I found myself in the dentist’s chair yesterday getting x-rayed and was informed I was afflicted with Pericoronitis. This condition which is caused when a partially erupted tooth gets food trapped around it, breeding anaeorbic bacteria and causing pain and suffering.

Fortunately, I was given a prescription for penicillin and vocodin, and it’s been smooth sailing since then. The sleepless nights of headaches and throbbing pain are a distant, two-day-old memory. I’m getting my wisdom teeth extracted on Monday.

Development by Klingons

Programmers, be sure to read Klingon rules for systems development (Anders Jacobsen’s blog).

My personal favorite:

7. What is this talk of ‘release’? Klingons do not make software ‘releases’ Our software ‘escapes’ leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

I found The Jakarta Project while reading about Struts. I’ll plunder this treasure trove while coding my hive-mind style superalgorithm to enslave mankind (using the MVC design pattern, of course).

Apparently the pope has given his blessing to some polish B-Boys.

“For this creative hard work I bless you from my heart,” he said.

The article is here, see for yourself. After the news crew left he got up and did the worm.

There are probably a few things more ironic than seeing employees of a certain health maintenance organization outside smoking on their lunch break, but not many.
