I picked a good time to get the hell out of the subways. Apparenty a guy poured a vial of mercury out at the Pershing square subway station. He then proceeded to call the MTA hotline and report the toxic chemical spill. After that he disappeared and has yet to be found.
Note that Mercury is a deadly toxin.
Terrorism experts say it may have been a dry run, testing the waters for a later, deadlier attack. So how long did it take for a response? 8 hours. Now I’m sure, based on previous experience, that MTA is not always so slow to respond. If the man had just pulled out a gun and started mowing down subway riders, the response would’ve probably taken only two or three hours.
