Even though I was their captive, the Indians allowed me quite a bit of freedom. I could walk about freely, make my own meals, and even hurl large rocks at their heads. It was only later that I discovered they were not Indians at all, but dirty clothes hampers.

My defect-ridden MacBook Pro saga continues. This time I woke up for work, and as I was getting started I heard a clicking sound coming from near the ESC key. I grimaced and wished for it to go away. It did not.

It got louder and louder. Eventually it sounded like this and this and this and this and this and this.

In a perverse act of optimism I called the genuinely friendly folks at Apple. I hopefully asked if there was a recall for this, but I learned that there is not. It doesn’t help that I bought the most-repaired model of the intel-based MacBook lineup, according to a survey. There’s even a helpful wiki article to tell me exactly how screwed I am. To date I’ve had two defective batteries and a defective power supply. I also have a defective motherboard which has a grating hiss when it runs on battery power. Fun.

In light of this, I’m proposing a more accurate “I’m a Mac / I’m a PC” commercial:

Mac: [coughs] Hi, I’m a Mac.
John Hodgman: And I’m a PC.
Mac: [collapses, flailing violently in the throes of a Grand Mal seizure while displaying telltale signs of hepatitis, malaria, and diabetes]

If this isn’t at Burning Man, I’m going to be surprised

Someone hacked together a tesla coil that can produce musical tones. They put on a concert featuring tunes from Super Mario Brothers and Tetris, among others. I want one.

Why thanks for asking! I’ve been chilling, going camping, and last weekend I went to Vegas. It was fun.

Sometimes a card says it all

I usually hate e-cards and forwarded e-mails, but I recently found a web site with tolerable, nay, totally awesome e-cards.

Go now, and offend your friends and family!
