If you make ships in a bottle, I bet the thing that really makes your heart sink is when you look in, and there at the wheel is Captain Termite.

LA = Boring

I highly recommend checking out my Burning Man pictures. My first impression of being back home: There is a severe lack of art cars in this town.

I’ve been back from Burning Man for a week now and I’m still recovering. I drove the 600+ mile trip solo both ways, stopping only for gas. Getting back to Mundania is a pretty big disappointment. At Burning Man, there was so much going on at once that whenever I sat down I felt guilty for missing out. I frantically tried to make up for it by taking as many great pictures as I could, hoping I’d have some nice images to relive the experience a little.

Burning Man wasn’t as big of a culture shock this time, which I didn’t take into account when I was imagining what it would be like this year. So instead of having my mind completely blown, it was just a constant state of amusement. Being there for a second week brought back all my memories of the first year, and so in a way it felt like I’d been there forever.

Plus, the playa at night puts the Las Vegas Strip to shame.

So I’m back now and planning my next trip. I’m going to Beijing next month to visit my awesome old school friend Aileen. Crushingly, I’m going to be missing the Detour Festival this year. I’ve been hoping to catch Justice playing live, and they’ll be there along with the Teddybears. They rock. It’s terrible to miss Justice again, they were already slated to play in LA and that show sold out long before I found out about it. Argh. Fortunately I came across this video of animatronic bears from my childhood playing crunk hiphop. It put a dent in my angst. For those who had their delicate sensibilities upset by that video, you can cleanse yourself with awesome walking sculptures.
